Teenager arrested on suspicion of racially abusing Hartlepool supermarket staff

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of using racially abusive language following an alleged supermarket theft.

While the name of the store has not been confirmed, police say the incident took place in Clarence Road, Hartlepool, on Tuesday morning after an 18-year-old man was being escorted from the premises.

He was later freed on conditional bail.

Cleveland Police said in a statement on Wednesday: “An 18-year-old man has been arrested in Hartlepool on suspicion of using racially abusive language and theft from a shop.

“Police were called to a report of a man using abuse language towards staff while being escorted from a supermarket in the town’s Clarence Road at around 7.30am on Tuesday, July 13.

"The man has been conditionally bailed. Investigations continue.”
